Just in Time for Spring: Babydoll Lambs
April 15, 2013
A sure sign of spring has arrived at the Prospect Park Zoo: two babydoll lambs are frolicking in their pasture, under the watchful care of their mother, Ginger.
Also known as the miniature Southdown, babydolls are the oldest-known purebred sheep in the world. The brother and sister was born in March. The male, Arthur, weighed eight pounds at birth while his sister, Brooklyn, weighed six pounds. As adults, Arthur will eventually tip the scales at approximately 175 pounds and Brooklyn at 120 pounds.
Come visit the wooly pair during our upcoming event dedicated to sheep: Fleece Festival, on Saturday and Sunday, May 18–19.
