Class Visits

Welcome to the Prospect Park Zoo Education Department!
Educators...just imagine,

• A group of second-graders becoming amateur herpetologists by examining live reptiles and amphibians in the classroom.
• Third-graders enhancing their vocabulary, word recognition, and observation skills through an in-depth exploration of the zoo's Discovery Trail.
• Teams of fourth-graders learning all about the habitats and prey animals of owls through dissection of owl pellets.
• Eighth-graders exploring the behavior of the zoo's baboons by conducting a mini-behavioral study and analyzing the findings.

This is just a sampling of the innovative teaching approaches that are part of the Prospect Park Zoo's education programs. Our inquiry- and standards-based curricula take advantage of the Zoo's exciting, naturalistic exhibits and allow students up-close encounters with animals from our educational animal collection in a controlled and supervised environment.

Science, Math, Technology, and Literacy Learning Standards

The New York State Department of Education states, "At the approach of the twenty-first century, the Board of Regents approved a new set of learning standards for New York students. They represent the core of what all people should know, understand, and be able to do as a result of their schooling."

All Prospect Park Zoo Education Department programs are aligned with New York State Science, Math, Technology, and Literacy Learning Standards. Below is a list of those programs and the standards with which they most closely align.

Cancellation Policy
All cancellations must be received by the Prospect Park Zoo Education Department in writing, by mail, email (ppzeducation@wcs.org) or FAX (718-399-7329). Cancellations made at least 4 weeks in advance will receive a 50 percent refund. There are no refunds for programs cancelled less than four weeks prior to the scheduled date of program. Please note that any request to reschedule your class is equivalent to a cancellation.
